lost in the street

this place is incredible. i’ve been here less than 24 hours and i already feel like i could spend every day of my life getting lost in the streets of tokyo and be happy. this is the general area I am staying in:

I arrived to my airbnb around 8:00 PM japan time. i am extremely tall, and my head hits the ceiling in several places in the airbnb, which i find very funny.

this is the street my airbnb is on. i really like that the streets have color painted on them. you may notice a small sewer grate on the left size of the image. when i got out of the cab, my ring fell off my finger and rolled down this slight incline and fell directly into this sewer grate and is now gone forever. maybe a hobbit will fish it up in 500 years and set in motion a chain of events that disrupts the entire power structure of the world…

I pretty immediately went to sleep after arriving at the airbnb. I then woke up at 3:30 AM and decided to go for a walk around the area. i walked around for a couple hours and saw the sun rise in a completely foreign place. it was a magical experience.

i was quite surprised to see street navigation signs in english. i was told that tokyo would have a lot of signs in english, but i found it surprising that street signs are included there.

there are several signs like this one around where i am staying. i can read some of it. I have no idea what the section in the middle says, but i am pretty sure the bottom part says “fureai roodo” or Fureai road?

there really are vending machines everywhere. feels like theres at least one every 15-20 feet.

there is just something really beautiful about the layout of the streets here. like they are begging to be walked down.

I turned down a side street and found this small shrine.

i continued walking around and took some really amazing pictures.

this is not all the photos i took. there are several more over on the /gallery/ page.
