last day in tokyo
today was our last day in tokyo. tomorrow, my mom flies back home and i move on to kanazawa.
we went to a cat museum, a beautiful art hotel, the largest sanrio store in the world, and a sushi restaurant. very japanese experience start to finish.
nyan
our first stop was a cat museum with shinobu-san. this was located inside a hotel, and is laid out in multiple rooms connected to a staircase with 99 stairs. this photo is from the top of the staircase, so spoilers i guess.
the cat museum is laid out by era, with different sections dedicated to cat art inspired by different periods of japanese history. there were sections where photography is not allowed here, but i got a lot of it. i took a lot of photos here, so its not all going to be in the post. the gallery page will have all the photos if you want that.
they also had a really cute section of movie posters edited with cats in them.
art hotel
after the cat museum, we took a walk around the connected hotel, which is also completely full of art. apparently this place is going to be torn down and rebuilt because they are “wasting too much space on art” and could capitalism harder if they had more room and less beautiful things. good to see something that reminds me of home overseas, i guess.
ginza
i was on a mission to find a hello kitty raincoat for my coworker’s daughter. i figured if it exists, may as well check the largest sanrio store in the world, which is in ginza. i didnt take any photos of the store, because it was pouring rain and i put the camera in the backpack before we went in. but it turns out they dont have hello kitty raincoats. i did get a bunch of souvenirs though.
then we went to a sushi restaurant in this same mall.
